The City of Salford employed me as a Dog Warden from 1979 to 1987.

It was early years for the dog warden service and as a result of many owners being a little naïve, on many occasions up to 15 dogs daily were taken from off the streets of Salford and transported to Manchester Dogs Home.

Fortunately, due to education and visiting local schools the numbers of dogs roaming the streets dramatically dropped.

I gained invaluable handling experience of dogs unknown to me.

For over 20 years I have owned dogs and successfully shown them in both competitive obedience and breed classes.

I instructed at a dog-training club run by 3 police officers for 3 years, before leaving to have my daughter.

Swinton Dog Training Club (SDTC) was established in 1991.

Qualifications:

I completed the Canine/Human interface course in 1993.This is a course run by the Canine studies Institute and the Animal Care College, a requirement is to undertake a special study on a dog related subject.

The top animal behaviourist, Mr. John Fisher, was my tutor. I passed with credit in January 1994. The course holds a R.V.Q. Certificate.

After completing an assessment I became an Associated Member of the British Institute of Professional Dog Trainers.

As a founder member I am currently undertaking the Kennel Club’s Accreditation Scheme for Instructors in Dog Training and Canine Behaviour.

This is a new pilot scheme introduced by the Kennel Club and is designed to encourage dog-training instructors to reach a high standard of professionalism in practical skills and in their background knowledge.
